How to Remove a Bony Bump on the Forehead?

Le 22 February 2023

A forehead with pronounced, irregular, and lumpy bones can affect facial aesthetics. The discomfort is not only aesthetic but also psychological. With frontal bone reshaping surgery, you can finally give your forehead the shape you’ve always wanted, significantly improving the aesthetics of your face.

Frontal osteoplasty is the cosmetic surgery that achieves aesthetic improvement of the entire fronto-orbital region.

The Procedure:

The personalized approach to frontal bone reshaping involves a combination of innovative and non-invasive software and surgical techniques for a result without visible scars:

Materialise Excellence Software:

With this software, the intervention can be programmed by performing repositioning simulations (morphing) to achieve a better aesthetic result on the face. This computerized procedure allows me to: customize the osteosynthesis plates that will then be applied according to the patient’s morphology; plan the intervention on the computer; manufacture a surgical guide to guide the bone cut.

This procedure to remove a bony bump on the forehead allows predictability of the final result and reduces stress for the patient.

Piezoelectric Surgery (Piezoelectric):

With this revolutionary device that uses ultrasound, the bone can be cut and reshaped, reducing operative stress and ensuring better recovery for the patient compared to traditional drilling.

In frontal bone reshaping, the bone is usually removed and reduced, but in more complex cases, it can be amputated. The incisions in the scalp are therefore hidden and do not interfere with normal hair growth, if any.

Frontal bone reshaping surgery lasts 1 to 2 hours. It is performed under local general anesthesia with an overnight stay at the clinic.

Postoperative Phase:

After the operation, a dressing is applied which the patient will wear for 4 days and sometimes suction drains are inserted to allow the absorption of hematomas.

To reduce the risk of infection, analgesics and antibiotics are prescribed. Other precautions include not washing the hair for a week. Swelling and bruising may appear around the forehead in the first 2 days, which typically disappear after 10 days.

Resumption of Activity:

From the 3rd day after the intervention, it is possible to resume normal life while avoiding intense activities, saunas, Turkish baths, and sun exposure. Return to normal activities takes 15 days; for more intense physical activities, an additional 15 days is required.

Result of Surgery to Remove a Bony Bump on the Forehead:

Through frontal bone reshaping, an improvement in profile and facial oval harmony is achieved. The result, appreciable on average already after 15 days, is definitively achieved 1 month after the operation.

Possible Complications:

Like any surgical procedure, frontal bone reshaping involves risks and complications. Some may be of a general nature, common to all surgical interventions such as bleeding, infections, seromas, adverse reactions to anesthesia.

Others, more significant, may include wound dehiscence (reopening), scar asymmetry, and alopecia (hair loss).
